What If Your Next Prescription Was a Walk in the Park?

Why Nordic Walking Belongs in Social Prescribing
The Government’s 10‑Year Health Plan puts prevention, personalised care, and community activity at the centre of future healthcare. Nordic walking fits this perfectly. Every day we see people becoming more active, more confident, and more connected through this simple, adaptable form of movement.

A Natural Fit for Social Prescribing
Nordic walking is:
  • Accessible
  • Evidence‑based
  • Community‑rooted
  • Supportive of physical and mental health
It improves fitness, reduces stress, builds social connection, and works for people of all ages and abilities.

Our NASP Session at Alice Holt
When BNW National Trainer Vicky and Nordic Walking Instructor Anne delivered a session for NASP (National Academy for Social Prescribing) , the real impact became clear outdoors. After a warm‑up and a quick technique session, the group experienced the impact of the poles for themselves — discovering that Nordic walking is far more than “a stroll with sticks”. Anne’s Nature Connection activity added a grounding, reflective moment that everyone valued.
A Moment That Says It All
One participant, attending with an off‑road mobility scooter, joined the warm‑ups and then tried a short 1‑to‑1 Nordic walk. Her reaction —

“It’s like I’m in a different body” —

captured exactly why Nordic walking belongs in personalised, community‑based care.
