Susan Beleska– Nordic Walking Instructor in Wiltshire

Nordic walking changed my life — and now I help others discover how it can change theirs too.

I decided to become a Nordic Walking Instructor after many years of lower back pain caused by Ankylosing Spondylitis, a form of arthritis. Living with ongoing pain made exercise feel difficult and sometimes intimidating, but I knew I needed to build strength and stamina to support my body and keep doing the things I enjoy.

Through Nordic walking, alongside yoga and Pilates, I gradually improved my fitness, built strength, and gained the confidence to keep setting goals and challenging myself. There have been setbacks along the way — but that’s part of life, and staying active has helped me stay resilient.

Walking is one of the easiest and most accessible forms of exercise, yet it brings so many powerful physical and mental benefits. Adding poles turns it into a full-body workout that supports posture, balance, and endurance — all while being low impact and joint-friendly.

And walking in nature with others? That’s an added bonus for both wellbeing and motivation.

What is Nordic Walking?

Nordic walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking — and anyone can do it.

Using specially designed poles and the internationally recognised International Nordic Walking Association 10-step technique, Nordic walking:

✔ Is twice as effective as regular walking
✔ Engages up to 90% of your muscles
✔ Burns more calories
✔ Remains low impact and joint-friendly

It’s walking — but better for your whole body.
