Joining Instructions – Plas y Brenin Nordic Walking Course

We are excited to welcome you to our Nordic Walking course at Plas y Brenin, the National Outdoor Centre in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Below are key details to help you prepare for your visit.

Travel & Directions

Plas y Brenin is located in Capel Curig, Conwy County Borough, Wales (LL24 0ET). It is easily accessible by car and public transport:

By Car: From the A5, follow signs for Capel Curig. Plas y Brenin has free on-site parking.

By Train: The nearest railway stations are Betws-y-Coed (6 miles) and Llandudno Junction (20 miles). From there, local buses and taxis are available.

By Bus: The T10 bus service runs from Bangor and Betws-y-Coed to Capel Curig.

Accommodation Options

While Plas y Brenin offers on-site accommodation, there are several other places to stay locally:

Bryn Tyrch Inn – A comfortable hotel in Capel Curig with a bar and restaurant.

The Eagles Bunkhouse – A budget-friendly option in Penmachno, ideal for groups.

Betws-y-Coed Hotels & B&Bs – A variety of guesthouses, lodges, and hotels are available in Betws-y-Coed (6 miles away), including The Royal Oak Hotel and Glasfryn Guest House.

Camping & Hostels – Nearby campsites such as Gwern Gof Isaf offer scenic stays for those who prefer an outdoor experience.

We recommend booking in advance, as accommodation in this popular area fills up quickly.


What to Bring

Comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for the weather - a few changes maybe needed dependent on the weather!

Sturdy walking shoes preferred to boots

Waterproof jacket and trousers

Personal items (water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, etc.)

Nordic walking poles will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please let us know if you need poles - your National Trainer will have a bag of new ones to try out. 


Additional Information

Check-In: Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the course.

Facilities: The centre has toilets, a café, and a drying room for wet gear.

Mobile Reception: Signal strength varies; Wi-Fi is available at Plas y Brenin.

Food: Tea and Coffee will be provided. You will need to bring your own lunch although Plas y Brenin offers on-site dining options for lunch. The Lolfa'r Wyddfa Bar & Dining serves freshly made food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
