About Jenny

I live amongst the Chiltern hills in Beaconsfield, South Bucks. Formerly a management consultant, I am currently a full-time mum, lollipop lady and Nordic walking instructor – all of which mean that I am lucky enough to spend a lot of time enjoying the outdoors. I have been Nordic walking since 2011 and, following training and assessment by BNWA, I qualified as a Nordic walking instructor and now operate through MCL Fitness.

Jenny’s Story

Having been a very active child and young adult, my days of being fit and outdoors ended when I started work. Long hours, international travel and demanding clients meant that I was no longer able to commit to any team sports and I lacked the time and motivation to exercise alone. In my mid-30s I left work to become a full-time mum. The joy of having a young child was tempered by severe post-natal depression, which lasted several years. Going out twice every day, whatever the weather, became a lifeline. When my daughter started school, I was determined to get fit again but had lost all of my social confidence. Then one day I saw a local ad for a Nordic walking trial session. I mustered up the courage to go along…and was hooked. Shortly after, I discovered MCL Fitness, run by Melissa Laing, and attended an initial series of classes to learn Nordic walking techniques. When I progressed to Melissa’s regular Nordic walking group, I was reassured to find out that very few people were super-fit, super-confident or lycra-clad. In the years since then, my fitness levels have significantly increased and I gained the confidence to first become a community leader and then, through BNWA, an instructor in my own right. I now do a range of sporting activities four times a week in the friendly company of people from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups, and lead Nordic walks and run starter courses through MCL Fitness.
